There is no single perfect matcha latte ratio, but 3g of matcha + 30 ml of water + 90–120 ml of milk is a reliable place to start. From there, adjust the milk or matcha depending on how strong you like it.
The Best Starting Ratio
Use 3g of matcha, whisk it with about 30 ml of water, then add 90–120 ml of milk. This gives you a balanced latte where the matcha still comes through.
For a Stronger Matcha Latte
Use 3.5–4g of matcha with the same 90–120 ml of milk. Increasing the matcha is usually better than simply cutting out the water needed to whisk it smoothly.
For a Creamier, Milkier Latte
Use 2–3g of matcha with 120–150 ml of milk. More milk softens the matcha flavour and makes the drink more milk-forward.
Does Ice Change the Ratio?
Yes. Ice dilutes your latte as it melts. For an iced matcha latte, use slightly more matcha or slightly less milk if the drink starts tasting weak.
Should You Mix Matcha Directly Into Milk?
Whisk the matcha with a small amount of water first, then add milk. It helps the powder disperse more evenly. Read Do I Mix Matcha With Milk or Water? for more on the method.
Adjust One Thing at a Time
If your latte is too weak, add another 0.5–1g of matcha. If it is too strong, add 15–30 ml more milk. Our guide to how much matcha powder to use can help you dial in the amount.
Find Your Favourite Ratio
Start with 3g matcha, 30 ml water and 90–120 ml milk. Some people prefer much stronger or milkier ratios, so treat it as a starting point rather than a strict rule.
